As many of you have already seen, on June 5th we officially joined the OpenDaylight project. We are very excited to be part of the 39 companies participating in the industry’s largest open SDN and network functions virtualization (NFV) effort. Our excitement comes from our ability to quickly bring an open, common platform for SDN and NFV to the industry and contribute to the community in the areas of policy enforcement, Wi-Fi and application analytics.
Today, we have even more great news to share with everyone to help foster innovation at Extreme and our customers and partners. Extreme has established an SDN platform to promote community led innovation. We believe our customers should be able to migrate to SDN without the need for expensive upgrades. By combining management, APIs and standards-based protocols and switching technology, we are accelerating the delivery of an open, standards-based SDN platform and solution ecosystem. The platform integrates with our existing network infrastructure, preserving customer investments and avoiding vendor lock-in.
Many companies are struggling to evolve their network’s ability to keep pace with compute and storage models, in addition to delivering speed and flexibility in provisioning workloads – all while reducing costs. It’s a tall order to fill! Extreme’s simple, fast and smart platform, based on the OpenDaylight (ODL) controller, will utilize NetSight, Purview and APIs (toolkits) to enable customers to evolve their network to keep pace with emerging security, wireless and converged SDN infrastructure models. It will also deliver a customization platform for increased agility and will interoperate with best-of-breed and incumbent network infrastructure to help drive down costs.
We are truly excited to be launching this platform and look forward to your thoughts and feedback. In addition, be sure to check out our brand-new Extreme SDN Innovation Challenge for all the developers out there – find out all the details here. For more details on SDN, don’t miss our webinar on July 16 on Demystifying Software Defined Networking – What it really is and why it matters to you! – join myself, Bithika Khargharia and Ali Kafel for a great discussion on how to get past the hype and confusion around SDN.
